It’s late spring in L’Amable, Ontario, and we have huge numbers of caterpillars in the dog yard and trails. Specifically, this is the Eastern Tent Caterpillar (Malacosoma americanum). They are pretty gross, and tend to congregate in dog food bowls during the day. They hang from trees, and make their tents in maple and spruce trees. We are looking forward to when they turn into moths and complete their lifecycle for the year.
